石渡奈菜（琉球大学医学部）

こんにちは。現在、沖縄県の大学に通っている、石渡奈菜です。

小学生から高校生まで花山キャンプ・つまごいキャンプに参加させてもらいました。大学生になってからは、足が遠のいてしまっていますが、今回リレーコラムのお話をいただき、現在の近況、そしてキャンプの経験をお話ししたいと思います。

私は、将来、子供たちに人体の面白さや医学を教えたいと考えています。子供たちがどういうことにワクワクするか、日常的にどんな疑問を抱くか、どんな説明・手段を用いると理解しやすいか等を模索するため、子ども食堂のボランティア、小学校の学童のバイトをしています。現在、沖縄を中心として、麻疹が流行しているため、子供たちは得体のしれないものが迫っていて、怖いと感じていることを先日、私に告白してくれました。そのため、「麻疹とは」「どんな症状か」「どういう風にうつるのか」「予防法」などを一緒に調べ、紙にまとめました。子供たちが抱いている興味関心に対して、力添えができたことを嬉しく思い、また正しい知識を提供できたことが私自身の自信につながりました。

ここで思い出したのが、花山キャンプでのことです。私はひょうたん池でオタマジャクシをとるのが好きで、白いオタマジャクシを見つけました。そして、カウンセラーやドクターと一緒に調べて、それがアルビノ(先天的にメラニンが欠乏している病気)であることを知りました。そのあと、夏休みの自由研究として調べました。現在も遺伝子疾患に興味があります。

このように、子どもの興味関心に対して、大人がサポートすることで、子供たちがその分野に継続的に魅力を感じることがあると、子ども側、大人側からも気づきました。これからも子供たちの興味関心を伸ばせるよう努力したいです。また是非、花山キャンプ・つまごいキャンプに大人側の立場で参加したいと思っています。
